Very similar to Sword of the Stars: The Pit. It feels like it's EA, but definately has the skeleton of a good game, assuming you like the pit.. Not yet, if ever.Could The Pit Infinity end up being a fantastic FPS with a strong focus on rogue-ish elements? Maybe, and maybe not. It's too early to tell. At this point (10/2018), even from a technical standpoint, it's kind of a mess. And the devs are estimating a maximum of one year until full launch. That makes me nervous considering what I have in front of me, but we will have to wait and see. Do I recommend it right now? Absolutely not. I have personally thrown way too much money into Early Access projects that just fall apart and never reach their potential. What I can say is that it does sort of feel like a FPS version of Sword of the Stars: The Pit. There is a heavy focus on the 'rogue' component, so if you are looking for a more traditional run-and-gun FPS, this isn't going to be your jam. What I have in front of me right now is really basic, and lacking in nearly every department. I will also say that how the dev responds to community feedback isn't always the greatest, from the limited time I spent with the community. I get strong feelings that they are not really all that genuinely interested in community feedback, and they also seem to have a bit of overconfidence going into a historically difficult genre. The FPS/rogue genre is particularly tricky and I am coming to the conclusion that, yes, it can be done right - but it's often a struggle. There are more fails in this genre than wins, by far. Now, if they churn out a brilliant game (and I have the motivation to re-play it), of course I'll change my review. Of course. To be crystal clear, I upvote many Early Access titles out of the gate that have rough edges. Usually these get upvotes because a sliver of their 'potential' has actually been realized. I don't see anything here yet that isn't purely nostalgia driven, at this point in time. While there are outliers, most successful Early Access titles start much more polished than this, and simply get better. The vast majority of Early Access titles I've played that start this rough generally don't get exponentially better. Again, there are outliers, but it needs to be said. I was going to list all of the issues currently in the game, but there are just so many. Go browse the bugs section and you can get an idea. After about 1.5 hours, I had to throw in the towel. It wasn't fun, and the bugs just drove me nuts. If anyone absolutely needs the gory details I can provide them (in fact, I have on the forums in several places).Pros:+The price-point is competitive+At least it's shaping up to be more 'rogue' than FPS, which is probably a good thingCons:-It's not fun yet-Everything in the game looks the same and has bland color palettes-Nearly every aspect needs a good bit of TLC (combat, searching, enemy behavior, optimization, UI, sounds, level design, etc.)-Technical issues and bugs galore-I wasn't thrilled with dev interaction with the community; take that with a grain of salt, but I don't care to be a part of this - too many higher quality EA projects going on and too little time (this might be a language/culture barrier or something, I really don't know)-Dev track record with previous titles is not great to say the least; definitely makes me think twice about supporting an EA campaign (I encourage you to investigate their other titles on Steam for yourself)-Now, it's not explained so I'm forced to assume at this point, but there is an Achievement for 'everyone who comes in early'; if this is ungettable for people that buy 1.0, some will not like that (myself included)Look, I know there is a very dedicated fanbase out there for this title - and while I appreciate their enthusiasm for the potential this title has, I can't recommend that my friends run out right now and put their money down. In a flooded market, we can choose to be picky. With that being said, I wish the devs the best of luck with their Early Access campaign.. I was worried that a lot of The Pit's RPG elements would be lost in translation, but it's all there. Do I want to get better at shanking rats or sorting through garbage for precious edible biomass? Tough call. The procedural content makes for some pretty fun moments. In my first run I got in to a fist fight with a crazy man after shooting his pet scorpion (They were just waiting for the elevator, I'm probably an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ); I found Sarah Connor's apocalypse gun stash, only to discover that my character was about as accurate with an assault rifle as an angry chimpanzee (guess I shouldn't have put all my points in to garbage sorting) ; and I finally got killed by a giant angry mutant bear and her three spider-brain concubines (What happens on floor 8, stays on floor 8).The core mechanics are solid, and the polish will come with time. I'm looking forward to exploring this pit of scum and villany.. EA Pre MP patch update Review:The game is ♥♥♥♥ing amazing. Perfect sots the pit rogue port fps for 10 bucks for 2 days worth it.. As of 10/2018, so far so good. Obviously the game is early access, and very early at that. Anyone hating on it failed to read the statement from devs saying there will be major patches every few months. I've only had it a few days since it went up in the store and there have been 3 updates. Some are being way too harsh, way too soon. The game is completely playable right now, just rough around the edges which is to be expected. For fans of The Pit, it is essentially the same rules just a real-time FPS roguelike. Can't wait to see the improvements in the future, seeing as how the original The Pit ended up with so much content over the years with endless replayability. For those that didn't read, the price is going to go up over time as more content is added, and at $10 it's a total steal.. Nice FPS roguelike, recommended!. if youve played the original 2d version then you know what they have planed, and you will know how much content the developers consistantly released. that being said if you want a fully polished game then EA is not for you. forexamplei i think i died of starvation although im not sure and i couldnt find enough food to sustain me. then i died of 10 disease becuase i missed didnt kill a bat at the start of the combat. the game dose not hold your hand and it will not be balanced particularly as certain features are yet to be introduced. Multiplayer Co-op Update Friday March 15th!: Soon you will be able to work together with two of your friends to try and not die in The Pit! And when that fails, at least you won't die alone! As planned with The Pit: Infinity's initial release on Steam Early Access, our first major update would be to add multiplayer cooperative play, along with continued work on the game in general. Now you can set up a multiplayer game for you and up to two friends to join forces and take on The Pit.The update will go live on Friday, March 15th - new players will have a two-day grace period to jump into the game at the initial Early Access price of $9.99 before we increase pricing to $19.99. If you wanted to wait until the game had multiplayer support before jumping in, now is the time to jump in fast and take advantage of some release price savings! We'll do an update announcement, with full details on what's in the update, on Friday.. Pit of Doom - Where We Are & Where We Are Going: It's opening day and we are happy to have you here! I just wanted to make a post covering what the current status of PoD is today, and to give you an idea how things will proceed during this Early Access period in order that you all can have the best idea of how or when you want to get involved.THE PLANRight now, Pod is slated for 4 major gameplay updates that will occur over the next few months and a whole slew of small content/fixes/suggestion implementation updates that should occur every couple weeks or so. Now we all know that no plan survives battle in one piece, but should anything cause things to slide around we will be quick to let you know. Transparency and communication will be vital for us on this. Also know that there will be a priority set on NOT breaking saves but if its unavoidable, we will give you a heads up.THE GAMEIf you are new to the Pit or to Kerberos in general, you should know that this is a very big game being made by a relatively small team. There is a TON of content to added to this game JUST for the base game. Make no mistake, this game is on its way, its getting done, and its never going to be smaller, or cheaper, as it is today. ;) As the game reaches completion, its price will rise to its intended selling point so getting in early does have its perks. Also, of course, there will be a Dawg Soldier achievement for everyone who comes in early!Another important thing to keep in mind is what kind of game this is going to be. Make no mistake, while it is clearly based on FPS mode, this is not a frantic run and gun with rooms filled with 700 monsters. This is going to still be a skill based rogue-alike where you have to keep track of ammo, food and you get to use dozens of crazy weapons and, eventually, decide on your own when to sneak and when to blast away. If you are looking for just a run and gun, then even I suggest this may not be the right game for you.WHAT WE NEED FROM YOUNow this part is optional but I'm also not going to lie. We do need your help. As I mentioned we are small, only 11 of us, and while that makes for an awesome hotbed of creativity, it also has some real drawbacks in terms of things like playtesting across multiple platforms. We have a nice diversity of machines in the office but nowhere near what you need for solid compatibility testing. Here in the office, we have only one really annoying, really random crash bug in the game. Which is great, relatively, but we need your bug reports, especially the crash ones, that are different from ours. Also we really value your input. For those of you familiar with the original Pit, you have an idea of how mean this game is going to get and many of you have a pet peeve about how things are in that game. So now that we have a chance to get you in when mid level tuning and small additions can be made easily, we need you to chime into the suggestions section and state your thoughts and also weigh in on other peoples thoughts... IN A SUPPORTIVE AND RESPECTFUL MANNER. ;) In the end we will be keeping track of who's original suggestions made it into the game and I think the person with the most might be immortalized with an achievement title bearing their name.We will be both here and on our own Kerberos Boards[kerberos-productions.com] to answer questions and respond in a timely manner. In general you might get a quicker response on our own boards but either is good.ONWARDS AND UPWARDSSo once again, thank you all for your interest, thank you for your support if you choose to come in. And hold onto your space helmets, cause it's gonna be a wild ride and I am looking forward to playing online with you all after the first big update! ;)--MECRONCEO/Creative DirectorKerberos Productions. To Infinity -- and Beyond!: It’s been an amazing first month of Early Access.
